Helsinki is an ambient trip throughout the capital of Finland, led by Miikka Paatelainen and Janne Haavisto of The Farangs.
The musicians recorded their instruments in locations all around the city: Kiasma, the museum of modern art, Mäkelänrinne, the biggest swimming hall in Helsinki and the Old Student House all hosted the duo. Each location imparted a truly distinctive and organic sounding ambient character to the recordings that could otherwise not be achieved artificially with computer generated audio effects.
Beyond the music, many different sounds of Helsinki, from the noises of the subway to screeching seagulls become part of an audio landscape where you will love to get lost.
The structure of this record makes it a special one. Helsinki is a 39 minute piece divided into three 13 minute sections, that can all be played together simultaneously. By burning two copies and playing parts 1, 2 and 3 on three boom boxes scattered around your room or apartment, you get an "El-Cheapo Home-Fidelity Surround Sound". As a bonus track we included a 5.1. DTS-version of the three parts mixed together.
